While Nik goes into town for a lawyer's appointment, Lu gives her first writing class since the birth of the twins. She tries to use this to escape from her everyday life into the routine of the past. She only succeeds to a limited extent. But when she speaks to Nik on the phone that evening, these worries are forgotten.
He spends the night at Ben's unexpectedly and insists on telling her the reason for this in person the next day. Lu is unsettled and Nik would prefer to ignore his feelings, but instead shares them with Ben of all people.
