East Berlin, summer 1984. For five months, Kim has been drawn to the narrow river that runs past the new high-rise housing estate. It is the only place where she finds peace between her thoughts. As if they could not find space here to turn into images and words. And then twelve-year-old Moritz with sad eyes appears by the river, throwing Kim back into reality and making cracks in the wall that is supposed to hide what she does not want to see. Life.
She lets it happen, allows herself to feel this life again after months of paralysis and opens her heart to Moritz and his father David. They give her a reason to laugh, to love, moments to be happy. And yet they can't change what has happened...
